D4 was introduced in 1894 and was the 7-ton version of this kit.�About�15,000 were built before the very similar 10-ton�D9 replaced it in 1902.�About 9,000 D9s were�built new built, plus about another 9,000 rebuilt from D4s by fitting larger axles and�axleboxes.
