D17 with steel underframe.�This modern form of GER 15ft high-sided wagon can be traced back to 1893 when steel underframes were introduced under the very similar�wagons which were already being made but with wooden frames.�No less than 12,050 examples were built both at Stratford and by contractors and they were only superceded in 1902 by�a new 7-plank design.
